Prabhupāda: “Do you think that you are not being taxed? Why should you not be taxed for the proper gain? You are being taxed for so many nonsense things. Why not be taxed for the proper thing? That is intelligence.”

“Then he is not God?”

Prabhupāda: “I do not follow.”

So it is not very much advisable to make lies just to sell books. If we simply stick to describing how wonderful is Krishna, that will not be a lie! Lie to some, not to others, that is not a good philosophy. That art you must develop, not art of lying. Convince them to give by your preaching the Absolute Truth, not by tricking.

So if they are socially accepted or not doesn’t matter. For example, amongst the qualified legal practitioners in different provinces there may not be social intercourse, but that does not mean they are not qualified lawyers.
