Therefore pure devotion means anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyaṁ jñāna-karmādy-anāvṛtam [Brs. 1.1.11]. Pure devotion means one should be freed from all material desires, even from the desire of being elevated So they are not pure devotion. They are karma-kāṇḍa, jñāna-kāṇḍa.

The Nectar of Devotion
People do not wish to come to the pure devotional service. That is the beginning of pure devotional service. No other engagement. Simply Kṛṣṇa. That is pure devotional service. But that is very difficult to achieve.

This chapter is "Characteristics of Pure Devotional Service." Pure devotional service should be without any desire, anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyam [Brs. 1.1.11]. That is pure devotion.

But a pure devotee does not accept even all these liberation. They don't ask for liberation. Pure devotee is satisfied only with the service of the Lord. That is pure devotion.
